Why is Animation all 3D today if old cartoons like Tom & Jerry or Tex Avery's are still so popular?

good old hand-drawn Animation has never been matched by cartoons in 3D ( Jimmy Neutron style ) 3D might have space, lightings and textures, but it is still too stiff ! don't you think?
