I need insider's info on Australia!?

I am American, and I have always wanted to live in or at least take a trip to Australia, but I've never had the money. A lot of the reason why is that I love wallabies and kangaroos. So what is it like living there in Australia? I'll bet it is great. What are some of the best places to live in Australia? I need an insider's opinion. Thanks, mate! :)
